The Tritons Story
The Brisbane Tritons are Queensland's first and only LGBTIQ-inclusive water polo club. Founded in late 2015 with the assistance of the Brisbane Barracudas, Sydney Stingers, and the Melbourne Surge, the Tritons have grown from 14 members in their first bootcamp, to over 80 active members with 4 teams entered into the Brisbane Competition in 2016.
Our partnership with the Brisbane Barracudas has helped us foster a inclusive environment, giving many an opportunity to play water polo where they would not have previously. The Tritons and Barracudas hosted the National League Pride cup for the first time in Queensland in 2017, and also the inaugural Pride Challenge, where all 4 LGBTIQ water polo clubs met in Brisbane for the first time.
The Tritons are also proud of two of our founding coaches, Mel Rippon and Damien Hicks, both from the Barracudas) who were recognised for their efforts and work in sporting inclusion at the 2017 LGBTIQ Awards in Sydney.
The Tritons welcome all players 18 years or older to join us, no prior experience in water polo is needed. We run beginner bootcamps, as well as development weekends hosted and coached by the Barracudas National League. Send an email to firstname.lastname@example.org or on Facebook!
